Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 5, 2026
This policy describes how Exploration Maps ("we", "us") collects and uses information when you use explorationmaps.com.
What we collect
When you use the map editor, we collect:
- Email address — entered voluntarily when you unlock watermark-free exports. Used only to process your export request. Not added to any mailing list.
- Map data you import — GeoJSON, CSV, and other files you upload are processed in your browser. Files are not stored on our servers.
- Usage data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) collected automatically by our hosting provider (Vercel). We use this to understand usage patterns and diagnose issues.
What we don't collect
- We don't require account creation or login to use the tool
- We don't sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes
- We don't use tracking pixels, advertising networks, or third-party analytics beyond what Vercel logs by default
- We don't store the map files or geodata you work with
Cookies
The site uses no cookies for tracking or advertising. Your browser may store local data (localStorage) to preserve your map state between sessions — this data stays in your browser and is never transmitted to us.
Third-party services
The map editor loads basemap tiles from third-party tile providers (CartoCDN, Esri, OpenStreetMap contributors, OpenTopoMap, OpenRailwayMap). When tiles load, your browser makes requests to those providers' servers. Their respective privacy policies apply to those requests.
The site uses Google Fonts for typography. Loading fonts involves a request to Google's servers. See Google's privacy policy for details.
The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel's infrastructure collects standard server logs as described above.
Data retention
Email addresses collected for export unlocks are retained only as long as necessary to process the export. We don't maintain a marketing database. Server logs are retained per Vercel's standard retention policies.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you. Email coltongriffith@live.ca with your request.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
